Change registered owner of your PC

Have you ever thought of who might be the registered owner of the PC you are using? By default, Windows 10/11 is installed with the registered owner as “Windows User” and an empty organization name for the PC.

This page provides a step-by-step guide on how to change the registered owner and organization name on a Windows PC using the Registry Editor

However most of the apps you install will reference and use the registered owner and organization of the PC, hence you may need to change the registered owner and organization to correct or update them. Please keep reading to see it’s done in windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to change the registered owner and organization.

Here’s How:

Pop up the Registry Editor
A) Press the Win + R keys to open Run, type regedit into Run, and click/tap on OK to open Registry Editor.

B) Navigate to the key below in the left pane of Registry Editor. (see screenshot below)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

To Change Registered Organization of PC
A) In the right pane of the CurrentVersion key, double click/tap on the RegisteredOrganization string value to modify it.
B) Type a name you want as the registered organization, click/tap on OK,

 To Change Registered Owner of PC
A) In the right pane of the CurrentVersion key, double click/tap on the RegisteredOwner string value to modify it.
B) Type a name you want as the registered owner, click/tap on OK,

You can leave this empty if you do not want a registered owner name for your PC.

Close the Registry Editor when finished.
